Purification Program - Day 1

Detox and Purification Program
DAY 1

Congratulations on taking the first step towards creating a healthier life for yourself by beginning the Standard Process 21 Day Purification Program. The next 21 days will be a life changing experience for you that usually includes feeling more energy, sleeping better, and weight loss, just to name a few changes. The common response from patients is "I haven't felt this good in 20 years." If you have gone through the purification program before, you know that you will soon be feeling energized and ready to take on the world.


Our goal with this experience is to start you on a path towards living a healthier lifestyle. So let’s just get started!!!

How Should I Feel Today?


Usually, the first day is not too difficult. You might experience some minor cravings, but most people don't really notice too much on the first day. If you are a heavy coffee or soft drink user, you may begin to experience some withdrawal symptoms from the caffeine or sugar. This is perfectly normal and should subside over the coming days. If you experience a terrible caffeine headache, you may try brewing a little organic coffee and taking just a few sips, (Don't overdo it here), and the headache will likely disappear. You should find you only need to do this for 1-2 days maximum and then you should be off the coffee altogether.


Supplement Regimen: Day 1


2 Tbs. SP Complete Shakes: 1-3 shakes per day (2 Tbs. per shake)
7 SP Cleanse Capsules: 3 times per day = 21 capsules per day
3 Gastro Fiber Capsules: 3 times per day = 9 capsules per day
1 Tbs. Whey Pro: 1-2 times per day in shakes/water (1 Tbs. per shake)

The Diet: Days 1-10


Unlimited fresh vegetables (try to eat as much organic as possible) - No corn, peas, or white potatoes


Collard greens,  Kale,  Broccoli,  Beets, Asparagus, Artichokes, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cucumbers,  Spinach, Mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, Peppers, Lettuce, Onions, Celery


Salads with unlimited veggies (no premade salad dressings)

You can use 1 Tbs. Olive oil mixed with Lemon and spices


Fruits: 1 serving = 1 cup Eat 2 times as many veggies as fruit

Bananas; Apples; Oranges; Kiwi; Berries; Apricots; Grapes; Tomatoes; Melons; Avocado; Figs; Limes; Pineapple; Lemons; Pomegranate


Rice: Organic Brown or Wild Rice ONLY: One 1/2 cup cooked serving per day OR
Lentils: Two 1/2 cup cooked servings per day


Oils: 4-7 teaspoons per day: Coconut oil; Extra-virgin olive oil; Flaxseed oil; Grape seed oil; Fish oil; Butter


Spring water or herbal tea (decaffeinated): Drink at least 8 8oz. glasses (64 oz.) of spring water per day

Shopping List:


We have made it very convenient for you to shop for the Detox program by providing a shopping list of the foods that you will be eating over the next 21 days. Take this list to the store with you when you purchase your foods.



Tip: Pick up one fruit or vegetable to try that you have never eaten before. It’s time to step out of the box and try some new foods; you’ll never know what you like unless you try it!


Recipe of the Day:

Citrus Berry Blast


• ½ cup blackberries

• ¼ cup blueberries

• ½ cup strawberries

• ½ banana (optional)

• The juice from 2 freshly squeezed oranges

• 1 Tsp flaxseed oil

• 2 rounded Tbs. of SP Complete

• 1-2 Tbs. Whey Pro

• Ice cubes or cold water


Directions for all shakes


Thoroughly blend all ingredients together, adding ice cubes or cold water until the shake reaches desired consistency. You may make a large enough batch to last you through the day, but make sure to keep it refrigerated, and remix it as needed before pouring.


Tips for your shake:


• Use frozen fruit and eliminate water/ice for a frosty, thick smoothie

• Mangos or peaches give your shake a nice zing

• Slice extra ripe bananas and freeze for easy use

• Increasing fruit will increase the sweetness, but will also increase the calories and may interfere with weight management

*If vegetables are used, there is no restriction regarding the quantity. When blending vegetables, it is recommended to use a high-performance commercial drink blender.

Tip: The Purification Booklet is a Dietary Intake Journal that you can fill out daily and also note how you are feeling. This is important because it can help us determine any foods that you may have sensitivities or allergies to and any that may be causing some of your symptoms.


Today’s Homework:


If you have not already, fill out the toxicity questionnaire to determine how toxic you are at the beginning to this program. People that score a 40 or more on the questionnaire usually have great success on this program!

Congratulations; you got through the first day! Each day that you decide to make positive lifestyle changes, the better you will feel and the easier it will get!


Don't feel discouraged if you feel a little less than 100%. As your body continues to purge toxins that have gathered over the years you may feel a little groggy, experience a mild headache and fatigue and perhaps even become irritable. Don't worry, this won't last forever and should pass in the next day or so.

As you finish the end of the third day, it is important to keep your body moving in order to increase weight loss and improve lymphatic drainage in the body.

Welcome to day 5! This may be the time where some food cravings are still hanging onto you. Here are some tips to help with the cravings…

Welcome to day 6; almost through with the first week! Remember that if weight control is a desire for you on this program, be sure to eat twice as many veggies as fruits.


Myth: To avoid heart disease, we should use margarine instead of butter.


Truth: Margarine eaters have twice the rate of heart disease as butter eaters.

Remember, butter is approved during the purification, however margarine is not. You should consider staying away from margarine even after you have completed the program. You have made it through your first week on the purification program!!!! Make sure to stick to the recommended program. Although nuts and beans are great foods, they are not allowed during the program due to potential allergen issues.

It might be that you are sleeping better, or are not having craving for sugar anymore, or possibly that the weekly headache or joint aches that you usually get did not occur this week. Pay attention to these changes over the next 14 days. Feel free to record these changes in your journal in the purification program booklet.

Great job in making it through the first week of the purification program. Pay special attention to the supplement regimen as there are a few changes starting today!


Tip: After Day 7, you should be 3 SP Cleanse capsules left. Just finish taking those 3 capsules as you move into day 8 and start on the new supplement regimen.

Green Bean Salad


2 ¼ cup of green beans, cut in 2-inch pieces

2 ½ tsp. fresh lemon juice

½ tsp. fresh mint, minced

2 tsp. olive oil

½ tsp. dried dill

1 cup of celery, sliced diagonally in ¼-inch pieces

Sea salt

Freshly ground pepper

2 tsp. fresh parsley, chopped

1 ripe tomato, cut in wedges


Steam-cook green beans until crisp-tender. Run them under cold water to stop the cooking process; set aside. Combine lemon juice and mint; reserve. In a large skillet heat olive oil and stir-cook dill for 20 seconds. Add green beans, celery, and salt and pepper to taste; sautƩ for 2 minutes. Transfer vegetables to a bowl, stir in the lemon/mint mixture and parsley; refrigerate. Before serving, garnish with tomato wedges.

For those of you who want to achieve weight loss with this program here are a few tips:

Avoid high sugar fruits like bananas – try to just stick to apples, pears, and berries

Spaghetti Squash


Ingredients:


- 1 large Spaghetti squash

- Roasted garlic

- Salt and pepper

- Butter


Directions:


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. Cut spaghetti squash in half length-wise.

3. Place on baking sheet and bake 25-30 minutes until tender.

4. Remove from oven and shred the squash with a fork. It will look like spaghetti.

5. Add some roasted garlic, butter and/or salt and pepper to taste.

6. Serve with Marinara Sauce (recipe below)


Spaghetti Squash Accompaniment or Mix-In


Use the following as a side accompaniment or add to Spaghetti Squash mixture.


Ingredients:


- 1 large tomato (chopped)

- ½ cup of chopped fresh basil (some people prefer oregano)

- ½ tsp olive oil

- ½ tsp minced garlic

- Salt and pepper to taste


Marinara Sauce


Ingredients:

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

- 2-3 garlic cloves, sliced or minced

- 1 medium onion, finely chopped

- 28oz stewed tomatoes

- 1 cup fresh Italian flat leaf parsley, chopped

- ½ cup fresh basil leaves, rolled and thinly sliced

- Salt and pepper


Directions:

1. Heat pan on medium high heat.

2. Add olive oil, garlic and onions.

3. Stir until soft then add remaining ingredients.

4. Stir occasionally and reduce heat to simmer for 10-15 minutes.

5. Salt and pepper to taste

6. Serve over Spaghetti squash, kale, or broccoli

Great job in making it through the first week and a half. If weight control is one of your goals for this program, be sure to not eat too much rice or sweet potatoes. Instead focus on salads and dark green vegetables.

Recipe of the Day:

Beet and Orange Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette


1 Tbsp. lemon juice

2 tsp. balsamic vinegar

½ tsp. salt

Freshly ground black pepper

1 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil

4 medium beets, stems trimmed to 1 inch

1 large navel orange

8 large Boston lettuce leaves

1-2 Tbsp. diced red onion

¼ cup orange juice
Arrange beets in one layer in steamer. Cover tightly and set pot over high heat. When water boils, reduce heat and simmer beets 45 minutes. Transfer beets to plate and let cool just enough to handle. Cut tops and root tip off beets. With your fingers, pull and slide off beet skin. Cut each beet crosswise into 6 slices. Grate 2 teaspoons zest from orange and set aside. Cut off top and bottom of orange. Setting orange on one of its cut sides on your work surface, slice off peel in strips, letting knife follow the curve of the fruit. Cut orange crosswise into 8 slices.


To assemble, line 4 salad plates with lettuce. On each plate, arrange 6 beet slices and 2 orange slices on top of lettuce. Sprinkle each with one-fourth of onions.


For dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together orange and lemon juices, vinegar, salt and pepper until salt dissolves. Whisk in oil and add zest. Spoon dressing over the salad. Serve immediately.

Today’s Homework:


Learning why old issues sometimes resurface: Don't be surprised if old symptoms you haven't experienced in years begin to return during the program. They should be of short duration and are considered a beneficial sign that your body is purging toxins and repairing underlying issues with your health. Old injuries or conditions may resurface for anywhere from an hour to a day or more. This theory is known as Homotoxicology and was developed by a German medical doctor named Dr. Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg. If you would like to learn more about homotoxicology, we have assembled a short article for your reading.



In fact, one patient had an old knee injury swell up during day ten. The interesting point is that she broke it almost 30 years ago. There had been no swelling or problem of any kind noted in the 30 years since the original injury; however her body felt it necessary to bring heat, macrophages and other white blood cells in to perform long overdue repairs. The swelling went back down to normal after a couple days.

1 red pepper

1 cup warm water

½ large avocado

5 baby carrots

1 tsp. onion, chopped

½ tsp. garlic, chopped

½ tsp. jalapeƱo pepper

Blend all ingredients in food processor for about 5-10 minutes until thick, & smooth. Heat soup in a saucepan until warm. Serve immediately.

Asparagus, however much you like

1 Tbs. olive oil per lb. of asparagus

Celtic Sea Salt®
Cut off woody end of asparagus. Line a pan with foil and preheat broiler. Lay out the asparagus in a line on the lined pan and sprinkle with olive oil first, then Celtic Sea Salt®. Broil for 7-9 minutes, very close to the broiler coil, then turn the asparagus over and broil for another 3-5 minutes (time depends on thickness of the stalks).

Salsa Fresco


2 cups ripe tomatoes, chopped


1 cup Vidalia onions, chopped


1 cup green bell pepper, chopped


2 Tbs. fresh lime juice


1 jalapeno, finely diced

Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish




Combine the tomatoes, onion, pepper, lime juice, jalapeno, and salt in a big bowl and stir to combine. Leave out at room temperature for 1 hour or place in the refrigerator for about 8 hours. Bring up to room temperature before eating. Spoon off any excess liquid; gently mix in the cilantro and Celtic Sea Salt® to taste.
